Few homes leave a physical and carbon footprint as small as the miniHome by Altius Architecture – and this week, Palm Springs Modernism Week guests can tour the energy efficient, modern prefab home during the exciting new Prefab Showcase.
Designed by Altius Architecture and built by HMK Prefab Homes, the miniHome represents the best in modern design and energy efficiency. Design details – such as a structural steel chassis and floor assembly, green materials, reflective thermal barrier, cedar siding, energy efficient windows and cork flooring – have resulted in a reduced environmental footprint, as well as lowered operational and maintenance costs. Like its name, the urban dwelling is a lean, green, eco-friendly machine, incorporating a surprising amount of sustainable technology into a compact (and comfortably livable) space. Continue reading

“ I have Social Disease, I have to go out every night! …If I stay home I start spreading rumors to my dogs.” – Andy Warhol
Treat your “social disease” with style, and join the Palm Springs Modern Committee for a star-studded night of glitz, glamour, period costumes and more.
This year, the annual benefit gala, The Silver Factory, is a tribute to the decadence and creative expression of the Andy Warhol era. Just as Warhol’s artistic abode became the avantgarde headquarters of New York’s most infamous fetes, Modernism Week guests will be invited to celebrate modernist design at the historic Michael H. Lord Gallery in Palm Springs.
Unleash your inner Edie, Holly, or other Warhol Superstar, and reserve your spot at The Silver Factory today!

See how an old classroom trailer gets a chic facelift with R+U‘s TRAILER BAR, on display at Palm Springs Modernism Week, February 14-24, 2013.
Standing by the philosophy that “designing something new does not mean starting from scratch,” R+U’s innovative approach to upcycled modular architecture results in reduced costs, quicker production, lower energy consumption, and less waste – all while being well-designed.
With its sleek, circular bar and lounging area, TRAILER BAR will offer Modernism Week guests 480 square feet of unique space for entertaining. As a single piece, the unit can be easily transported and installed as a fun alternative to a traditional cabana or guest house.
Designed by award-winning architect Robert Anderson, TRAILER BAR includes a powder room, stainless steel appliances, a wine rack, and margarita-colored onyx countertops. Doors run the length of the unit. The middle doors fold and stack, while the doors at the ends swing out to become stylish walls for the deck. Decks, trellises, and other exterior additions are separate and will be constructed on site.
