Airstream‘s trademark aluminum travel trailers are synonymous with adventure, good times, and old fashioned road trips. If you love the open road and mobile living, then make sure to stop by the Prefab Showcase at Modernism Week to check out Christophe Popper’s mobile living space, the Airstream Loft, and the new Airstream prototype Land Yacht.
The idea behind the Loft started when Christophe Popper began his hunt for the perfect road trip vehicle in 2008. After a series of unfortunate events, Popper finally became the proud owner of a 1989 Airstream. Fast forward to 2012, when the dream of renovating the motorhome became a reality. With the vision of creating a mobile living space, while maintaining a small environmental footprint, the Airstream Loft was born.
“We are going ‘gung-ho’ on this project and taking my classic into the 21st century,” says Popper. “Solar, natural gas etc. – are just a few of the many upgrades and tech related improvements we are doing.”
The Loft features mid-century modern interior upgrades, solar power and natural gas, and will be on display at the Prefab Showcase.
Airstream will also be featuring the new Airstream Land Yacht prototype – a high-end, luxury concept camper. Why rough it when you can yacht it?
The Land Yacht is the product of an international collaboration between Airstream, Tecnoform S.p.A., and the design studio of Officinia Italiana Design. The resulting interior is truly yacht-like and incorporates elements from the world’s finest luxury watercraft. The concept trailer is crafted with quality materials and equipment throughout, including high-luster teak and white wood inlay boat-deck flooring, LED panel lighting elements, Corian® solid surfaces and plush Ultraleather®.
Primary sponsor Hot Purple Energy will also be on-site to install a ground mount system, provide power to the prefabs, and create a stage for solar-powered musicians to perform. The most sustainable home/trailer at the Prefab Showcase will be awarded with a $2,500 prize.
